UBC Apple Festival - 2008
The 18th annual UBC Apple Festival was held on October 18th and 19th at the UBC Botanical Gardens in Vancouver. Approximately 12,000 people attended the Festival. The Pacific Agri-Food Research Centre (PARC) Summerland Sensory Program conducted consumer research on the Visual and Taste acceptance of two new apple selections from the PARC breeding program. The selections SPA440 (Nicola™) and SPA493 were compared to the commercially available cultivars Ambrosia™, Royal Gala, Fuji, Granny Smith, McIntosh and Spartan. The comparisons were done in a one to one coded trial. There were approximately 1,200 participants in the trials. The codes for the trials can be viewed under Visual Codes Results and Taste Codes Results.
The results of the surveys can be viewed under Results of the Pair-Wise Comparisons.
