Royal Winter Fair - 2008

After an absence of 44 years, the Royal Winter Agricultural Fair held a National Apple Competition.  The competition was held in Toronto in November.  The fair is the largest of its kind in Canada.  British Columbia, Ontario and Nova Scotia sent 96 entries which were judged by John Gardiner, retired apple specialist from the Ontario Minstry of Agricultur, Food and Rural Affairs.

BC apples brought home 14 ribbons out of 30 entries as well as the Canadian Horticultural Council Trophy for the New Variety Section, which went to Gartrell Heritage Farms in Summerland, for most points.  Please click on Other Local Winners for more information on other winners and new varieties.
