Orchard

PICO operates the only commercial, certified virus indexed, Budwood Orchard in Canada. Located at the Pacific Agri-Food Research Centre in Summerland, the orchard has approximately 25,000 trees representing some 500 different varieties of apples, apricots, cherries, peaches, nectarines and pears. All trees are the progeny of material received from the Centre for Plant Health in Saanichton, BC or the National Research Support Program 5 at Prosser, Washington. The orchard is inspected on an annual basis by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency and the varieties are inspected for viruses as required by the CFIA.
